1. Determination of particle size distribution of graphite electrode for steel making

There are two methods for measuring the particle size distribution of graphite electrode for steel making plate particles below 1 pm, electron microscope method and gravity sedimentation method.

The advantage of electron microscopy is that in addition to measuring the particle size distribution, the shape of the particles can also be known. Generally, 10,000 times the electron micrograph is used to determine the frequency distribution of graphite particles.

The measuring device of the gravity sedimentation method is an ultracentrifuge. This kind of ultracentrifuge measures the particle size distribution of graphite electrode for steel making plates under a strong centrifugal force equivalent to 10,000 times gravity (the maximum centrifugal force of a normal laboratory centrifuge is only 2000 times that of gravity). At present, in production practice, the sedimentation method is used for the determination of the particle size of graphite particles larger than 1Hm. First, the powder sample is suspended and dispersed in pure water, and a dispersant is added to prevent the particles from agglomerating. Then dilute the graphite electrode for steel making plate to a thin slurry with a graphite concentration of 0.05%, then put it into a container, and use a gravity sedimentation specific gravity balance to determine the particle size. The indirect method is adopted to greatly simplify the operating procedures. In the process of micronized powder measurement, the biggest problem is the agglomeration of particles. Therefore, when measuring the particle size of fine powder by the light transmission method, the ideal concentration is to make a low concentration suspension containing 0.05% of graphite, and add an appropriate amount of dispersant to make it dispersed. This method is detailed as follows:

1. The equipment and materials used:

Use; 2000 type particle analyzer' instrument, SK type ultrasonic diffuser, miniature electric stirrer and 3% carboxymethyl cellulose solution.

2. Preparation of the graphite electrode for steel making plate test solution

The dispersion liquid for measuring the particle size of the graphite electrode for steel making is prepared according to the following method: add a little carboxymethyl cellulose powder in distilled water, stir it fully to dissolve it, and measure the degree of courage after standing for 24 hours. Adjust the viscosity to 0.5~lPa*s to make a dispersion.

Take 3g graphite electrode for steel making plate powder, put it into a mortar, add 3g 3% carboxymethyl cellulose solution, mix with a glass rod and add a little distilled water to adjust the graphite test solution. Then adjust the concentration of the test. Add the dispersion to the beaker during the adjustment. Add a drop of the graphite test solution. After stirring, use an ultrasonic diffuser to disperse for 3 minutes, and then test the test solution.
