The sublimation temperature of graphite is 4200°C, which is 3 to 4 times that of copper (the sublimation temperature of copper is 1100°C). Under high temperature, the deformation is very small (under the same electrical conditions, 1/3~1/5 of copper) and does not soften. It can efficiently and cheaply transfer the discharge energy to the workpiece. With the increase of the strength of graphite at high temperature, the discharge loss can be effectively reduced (graphite loss is 1/4 of copper) and the processing quality can be guaranteed. In recent years, with the introduction of precision molds and high-efficiency molds (the mold cycle is getting shorter and shorter), people have put forward higher and higher requirements for mold manufacturing. Due to the limitations of various conditions of the copper lf graphite electrode itself, it has become increasingly unable to meet the development requirements of the mold industry. Graphite, as a material for EDM lf graphite electrode, has the advantages of strong cutting ability, light weight, fast forming, low expansion rate, low loss, and easy dressing. It has been widely used in the mold industry. It is inevitable to replace the copper lf graphite electrode.
